Transferring Water Pipelines Intersecting with Cairo-Alexandria Desert Highway Expansion Project
Emaar Misr’s team executed the works of transferring the water pipelines on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Highway, under the supervision of the Egyptian Armed Forces Engineering Authority. The objective of transferring these pipelines was to resolve the issue of intersection of its path with the highway expansion. Some of the significant challenges that lied ahead of Emaar Misr’s work on this project were:
- That the drilling is to be executed in a way that crossing the highway does not disturb the traffic
- The swiftness of executing these pipelines so that the water supplies of the inhabited areas along the highway do not get affected
- The diversity in drilling diameters, targeted drilling lengths and coverd distances, which were as follows:
- Two 1,106m crossings in length and 64-inches in diameter
- Five 2,475m crossings in length and 48-inches in diameter
- Two 808m crossings in length and 48-inches in diameter
- One 1,400m crossing in in length and 40-inches in diameter
- Two 408m crossings in length and 36-inches in diameter
- One 408m crossing in length and 32-inches in diameter
