HDD

What is HDD?

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is a method used to install underground pipelines, conduits and cables in a horizontal direction. It is often used to cross obstacles such as roads, waterways, tunnels, railways and much more. HDD involves the use of a drilling rig to bore a hole through the ground, while steering and guiding the drill bit followed by a drill string along a predetermined path. The hole is then reamed in stages while pumping drilling fluid reaching the desired diameter, then the pipeline or conduit is pulled through the reamed hole. HDD is often used to install utilities and pipelines under obstacles, and can be an effective way to minimize the impact on the environment and also eliminates disruption of surface activities.
